London Headshot Photographer
I’m a freelance headshot and portrait photographer based in Sidcup, London. I photograph people, and I love doing it. My hope is that my work not only captures what people look like, but celebrates who they are. My work is tailored towards actors and my aim is to create with you a portfolio of authentic images that captures your individuality and grabs the attention of casting directors.
I originally trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and spent a wonderful ten years working in the performing industry. I am familiar with the struggles of building an affordable headshot portfolio. I have worked with many actors, directors, casting directors and agents. I have learnt as a performer and as a photographer the importance of a truthful headshot! Headshots that really look like you! These are the headshots that casting directors love, and fortunately the shots I love to take.
I understand how important your headshot is. It is your selling tool, the key to get into the audition room or nowadays the permission to create a self tape for the virtual audition room. Your headshot needs to be authentic, it needs to be neutral yet engaging while also showing casting directors what you can do. I understand the pressure you are feeling to get that shot! That’s why it is important to have a portfolio of images for your Spotlight page. Different looks, styles and lighting set ups help to show off how versatile you are and provide casting directors with headshots that offer a glimpse of all the castings you believe you are suitable for. This is why it is fantastic to have good understanding of your own casting types, to own your features and quirks so we can show them off together. I can use lighting and background colours to compliment your look, reflect your casting type and help tell the story of the characters you are looking to play.
My Process
My shooting style is relaxed and friendly. I like to get to know you, to get a feel for your personality and hopefully make you feel at ease so we can get those truthful headshots. I usually find the shots between poses are my favourite portraits! I will welcome you into my home studio at the bottom of my garden, a naturally, beautifully lit, quiet space with no interruptions. We will then talk about your career, your casting goals and the clothing you have bought. That’s when we start shooting! I will help to pose and direct you though your headshots. I will suggest subtle expressions or characteristics to vary your portfolio of images. I will show you examples of what I am taking as we go so we both know I am capturing the shots you are after. I find that having a lovely chat and building a genuine rapport helps to capture beautiful, natural headshots.
My Photography Experience
Having trained as an actor I have always had a passion for story telling, this is what I love about photography and art overall. I completed a photography diploma when I went travelling around South East Asia, I used this time to document my travels, develop my portraiture skills and find my own photography style. I was lucky enough to work with a number of fantastic charities abroad and use my photography skills to assist in delivering self esteem workshops, to create visual practical guides for learning resources and also imagery to support funding applications. Since returning to the UK I have worked as a professional photographer for a number of companies. I have professional experience in portrait, lifestyle, event and commercial photography. I have worked with a broad variety of clients ranging from small family shoots in a studio to large scale on location events such as Formula One at SiIverstone. As Photography Manager with JustPose Ltd I worked as the lead photographer for high profile clients such as Jeep, Prada, Nike, Louis Vuitton and Bumble. My own private clients have included Virgin Active, Cornwall Living, and The Shakespeare Project.
My primary photography focus is now headshots for actors. I love working one to one with my clients and building a portfolio that enables them to get work in the performance industry. An industry I grew up in and one that I love to be a part of.
